A fire hits a skyscraper in Hong Kong
A 42-storey skyscraper under construction caught fire Thursday night (2) in Hong Kong, mobilizing a large group of firefighters.
The fire, which broke out in the bustling commercial and tourist area of Tsim Sha Tsui, started just after 11 p.m. (after 12 p.m. GMT). There were no reports of injuries.
The first flames were spotted on the building’s upper scaffolding and were visible from a distance. An hour later, the fire had spread to the entire building, while mist of ash fell over the surrounding areas.
The building was designed to house the historic Clube de Marinheiros Hotel and Restaurant, according to the building’s website, Grupo Empire.
