Football, goalball win in Brazil as team sports 'save the day' at Paralympics – News

Once again, Brazil's team sports did not fare well at the London Paralympics. Of the five sports it competed in on Saturday, the country managed to win only two: futsal and goalball, both men's.

Meanwhile, the men's and women's sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball teams were defeated.

In the seven-a-side football, the Brazilians had to overcome their own fans to beat the United Kingdom 3-0, in their first appearance in the competition. The next match will be on Monday, at 5 a.m. (Brasilia time), against the United States.

The goalball team beat Lithuania 12-5, their second win in three games at the Paralympics. Previously, Brazil had beaten Finland in their first appearance and lost to Sweden.

The defeats were even more “painful”. The sitting volleyball men were unable to overcome the strong Bosnian team, losing in three sets to zero (25-14, 25-21, 25-19). This was the first defeat in two matches.

Even the girls in the same sport made a reaction against China after winning the third set. But the Asians managed to win three sets to one (26-24, 25-15, 20-25 and 25-16).

The women's wheelchair basketball team suffered their second defeat in London. After losing to Australia in their first appearance, Brazil fell to the United Kingdom 42-37.
