France, Germany and the United Kingdom call on Iran to refrain from attacking Israel

The countries say retaliation could escalate regional tensions and threaten negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza

France, Germany and the UK have called on Iran and its allies to refrain from attacks on Israel. A Joint Statement Published by the British government this Monday (12.Aug.2024), retaliation would escalate regional tensions and threaten ceasefire talks in Gaza.

The statement said that there should be no further delay in the talks and thanked mediating partners such as the United States, Egypt and Qatar. Read on Complete of the Joint Declaration (PDF – 123 kB, in English).

We will spare no effort to work with all parties to avoid escalation, reduce tensions and find a path to stability.,” the statement said..

The countries added that the people of Gaza need an end to the fighting and the release of all those still held hostage by Hamas.Emergency and Uninterrupted Delivery and Relief Delivery”.

On August 8, the United States, Qatar and Egypt issued a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The countries are demanding that Israel and Hamas immediately comply with an agreement presented in May that would establish a 3-phase end to the conflict.

A preliminary meeting to negotiate the deal is scheduled to take place on Thursday (August 15). The location is still undefined, however, it should be in Egypt or Qatar, Israel's presence has been confirmed. The militant group is yet to respond to the call.
