A section made up of seniors of the Open University of the Third Age Foundation (FUnATI) animated the parade of the Reino da Libertate Samba School, this Sunday (04/02), at the Professorial Conference Center. Gilberto Mestrinho – Manaus Sambadrome.
Themed “Wisdom”, the segment was attended by around 50 students, including students from the Gerontourism class, their families and staff from the Amazonian Foundation.
The partnership between FUnaTI and the United Kingdom began during Carnival 2020, when the school launched “Tourism: Amazonas with open arms to the world, an amazing journey!” took the theme to the Sambadrome, said Professor Socorro Gomes, from the Gerontourism workshop. ., responsible for the wing.
“It's a great emotion, especially since we are in the 'Wisdom' section within the school's plot, honoring mothers, grandmothers and women who are very important in history. I thank the school for another year of successful partnership”, said the teacher.
This carnival, Reino Unido brought to the Avenue the theme of “Matriarchs” designed to honor the mothers of the school, in addition to all the great mothers of humanity.
The reveler's passion
65-year-old FUNATI student Jusileen Coelho da Silva says she has been marching in the Manas Carnival for a few years, but this is her first time with students from the foundation. “I am very excited about this opportunity that FUNATI is giving me. I was very sad after my retirement, but I met the foundation and today I am a different person, I am happy, I feel at home”, he said.

Also on Saturday afternoon (03/02), FUNATI participated in the opening parade of Grupo Special Samba Schools.
In this activity coordinated by the Secretariat of Justice, Human Rights and Citizenship, through the Undersecretariat for the Rights of the Elderly (Seadpi), Euler Ribeiro, rector of FUnaTI, the foundation's icons Dr. Saúde also participated. And the doctor is happy.
