Gen2: British company is preparing an electric off-road vehicle with a range of more than 1,200 km

UK-based Overland-e is announcing Introducing the Gen2, an electric vehicle with off-road capabilities and an extraordinary range of 1,200 km. The company is working on two distinct driver options: Urban and Explorer.

The first model will be a road-focused electric vehicle with a luxurious interior. The second is a product that is “capable of going anywhere in anything”.

Prototypes for both models are expected to be completed by the end of this year 2022, with versions ready for production by mid-2023. CEO Arron Rawding commented that there is interest from Overland-E in selling B2B (Business-to-Business) vehicles to military customers. Other potential targets for Gen2 sales could be in motorsport, Ruding said, “particularly in the United States, where he recognizes off-road desert racing as an important sport.”

In addition to the 1,200 km range, the brand reports that the EV has an “amazing payload” of 1,500 kg. Although the Overland-E Gen2 has a certain profile for a more specialized audience, the demand for quirky, eco-friendly off-road vehicles may grow in the coming years, given the good impression that the likes of the Audi RS Q e-tron and Rivian are causing the R1T of late Last.

In addition, there is the issue of the fossil fuel ban being implemented in many countries for transit (which is not limited to the urban setting). The launch of the electric vehicle is clearly following this trend.

In addition to the performance numbers, it’s likely that powertrain details and technical information will be released closer to the Gen2 version. Interestingly enough, the company is backed by Pario Ventures, a global venture capital fund that previously invested in Rivian.
