The tax reform is betting that the “PIX of Taxes” will reduce tax evasion and late payment. The business sector praises the system, but fears its impact on companies’ working capital.

However, the Ministry of Finance sees this argument as baseless, and proposes alternatives such as bank vouchers with a 30-day grace period or credit card installments, with taxes imposed on each installment.

Legislative process and support from the banking sector

The original proposal sent to the House of Representatives by the Working Group on Reform Regulation was preserved. The subject was approved on July 10 by the Legislative Council.

The economic team only identified wording corrections, without any practical impact on the “income tax”. The government hopes that the Senate will maintain the text that will be discussed in the Constitution and Justice Committee under the report of Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM).
