Hollywood Actors Wrexham Owner Joins Alpine F1 Buyout

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhinney are joining Otro Capital and Red Bird Capital Partners in an investor group to acquire a 24% stake in Alpine Racing, Renault, the parent company of the Formula 1 team, announced Monday.

The €200m deal values the UK-based Alpine Racing company at around $900m after investment.

Alec Shiner, Co-Founder and Partner at Otro Capital, will join the Alpine Racing Board of Directors.

“Deadpool” star Reynolds leads Maximum Effort Investments with McElhenney from the US sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and fellow actor Michael B. Jordan as co-investors.

Reynolds and McIlney took charge at Wrexham in November 2020, financing the Welsh club’s return to the English Football League as champions of Division Five in April this year.

His popular documentary series Welcome to Wrexham proved to be a hit in North America, catapulting the little-known club into the global spotlight.

Alpine Racing, based in Enstone, central England, won the Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship in 2005 and 2006 when competing as Renault, as well as Benetton in 1995.

They finished fourth in the championship last year and are currently in fifth place after eight out of 22 races.
