Home Secretary sacked after criticizing UK police

Britain’s Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, was sacked by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak this Monday, according to the British press.

Suella Braverman wrote an article in The Times in which she criticized police actions at a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

After the publication of the minister’s controversial article, Rishi Sunak was the target of pressure, including from his own party, to remove Suella Braverman from the government.

The minister feels that the authorities are more benevolent and more moderate, unlike what happens when the protestors are left-wing and when they are right-wing.

Many commentators and politicians have blamed the minister’s stance, revealed in the controversial article, for clashes between groups linked to the far-right and clashes between police in counter-protests to the demonstration, which resulted in 126 arrests.
