The aurora borealis originates from the sunlight that transmits it Charged particles of light and energy to earth. These particles then interact with the atmosphere, producing mainly green and red lights.
This phenomenon appears frequently in Iceland. In England, auroras are found in Scotland and, rarely, in Northern Ireland. There are even rarer sightings in the towns of southern England.
This time Kent and Cornwall, two towns in the south, witnessed the event. Wales could see that, and so could Northern Ireland.
It is hoped that the UK will see many more such events throughout this Monday (27).
