International Medical Knowledge Day

The 7th edition of the Winter Schools (2023) has been officially launched at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP). The event promotes a two-week program that brings together 62 students from 14 different countries, providing them with an enriching experience of academic activities related to medicine.

The diversity of participants is remarkable, with the majority coming from institutions outside of Brazil, including countries such as Chile, Peru, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Bolivia, Italy, Ecuador, the United States, and the Netherlands.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place on July 17, featured a table composed of academic dignitaries representing the various fields and sectors of the University of São Paulo. Among the attendees was Prof. Dr. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Director of FMUSP; prof. Carlos Gilberto Carlotti, President of the University of the South Pacific; prof. Paulo Henrique Braz da Silva, Deputy Director of the Mobility Region (representing the President of AUCANI); prof. Aluisio Augusto Cotrim Segurado, Dean of University Studies; prof. Carlos Vicente Serrano Jr., Chair of the FMUSP’s Committee on University Counseling and Culture. a. Iolanda de Fátima Lopes Calvo Tibério, Chair of the FMUSP Graduate Studies Committee; and prof. Valeria Aoki, Chair of the Committee on International Relations (CRINT) of the FMUSP.

a. Valeria Aoki, who directed the event, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, saying, “We have famous professors who are eager to give the best possible journey here at the University of São Paulo.

During the 2023 Winter Schools, several activities are planned for students, covering a wide range of topics and experiences, including a lecture on the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), case discussions, assessments, and visits to the Butantan Institute and the Afro Brasil Museum in Ibirapuera Park.

The initiative seeks to strengthen relations between FMUSP and prestigious international institutions, providing a valuable opportunity for people from all over the world to exchange interests and knowledge in the most diverse medical fields. This event reaffirms FMUSP’s commitment to promoting academic exchange and enriching health student training on a global scale.
