Kimberly-Clark and Essity support the Unilever UK Community Campaign

Unilever has enlisted the help of Kimberly-Clark and Acety to partner with British multinational retailer Tesco to boost its hygiene product donation campaign. Its aim is to contribute to combating health poverty in the UK.

Over a six-week period – ending October 3 – businesses will donate one hygiene product to the consumer goods charity for every two products selected from one of 700 participating Tesco physical stores or online channels.

In Kind Direct distributes donated items – including toilet paper and menstrual products – to a network of more than 6,000 charities across the country.

The campaign will distribute more than one million personal care products from household brands including Andrex and Bodyform to people in need.

Through the initiative by Tesco, Unilever and In Kind Direct, more than 400,000 products were donated to 1,391 charities last year. This year, the addition of new suppliers will help donate a wide variety of products.

A survey conducted by the Consumer Products Charity found that nearly half of the country’s low-income households go without sanitary products because they cannot afford them.

“Making difficult choices every day between food, living necessities and rent is the reality for many people in the UK today,” said Roseanne Gray, CEO of In Kind Direct. “The entire sector will come together to support change so that everyone has access to life’s essentials.”

Chris Baron, Managing Director of Unilever UK&I Personal Care, said: “Working with our colleagues we can quickly reach the next million donation milestone and ensure that the widest range of essential personal care products reach Kind Direct and through Kind Direct. A Network of Charities.”
