Critic of the privatization of state-owned enterprises since the election campaign, the President of the Republic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) claimed grant Eletrobras to the private sector and confirmed that Correos and Petrobras would not be privatized during his administration. The remarks were made on Thursday the 11th while participating in the launch of the Brasil Participativo digital platform in El Salvador. “Eletrobras has been privatized, it seems to me, for R$36 billion. What does the ruler want money for? To pay interest on his domestic debt. Criticize today, we don’t have a state-owned company and we still owe a lot.” The president even came out in defense of the business Union Attorney General (AGU), no Federal Court of Justice (STF), opposing the rule of proportionality in the federation within Eletrobras. “Now look at a whore. The government owns 43% of Petrobras [Eletrobras], but in the Council has the right to vote only 1. Our 40% is worth only one vote. Those with 3% have the same rights as the government. He explained that we went to court so that the government would have the number of votes against the number of shares it owns.

Lula criticized the criteria laid out in the agreement and stressed that there are no plans to privatize other state-owned companies. If the government wants to buy back Eletrobras and there is anyone offering R$30 billion, the government has to pay three times the offer made by the private sector. In other words, it is a ruse to try to prevent the government from being responsible for the energy that people desperately need. We won’t sell anything from Petrobras, Correos won’t sell. We will try to make sure that Petrobras can have the cheapest petrol and the cheapest diesel oil,” he added.
