Mick Jagger meets UK Olympic athletes Reproduction/Instagram
A day before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics, Mick Jagger met with part of the United Kingdom athletes' delegation in Paris. The leader of the Rolling Stones wished the athletes well, but Brazilians wasted no time remembering the cold-footed rocker's reputation.
The 80-year-old artist shared photos of the meeting on Thursday morning (25) and showed him talking to several athletes. “It was fantastic to meet and support the England team,” said the singer.
In addition to many supportive comments from the British, the Brazilians did not miss the opportunity to recall Jagger's reputation. “I made fun of the guys,” joked one internet user. “Don't the guys know he's the biggest badass on the planet?”
The rocker's reputation for bad luck in sports began at the 2010 World Cup, when the teams he supported suffered back-to-back defeats. In 2014, at the Brazilian Cup, the singer saw the score 7-1, and at the next World Cup, in 2018, he saw England exit in the semi-finals, losing to Croatia.
Mick Jagger's meeting with British athletes took place at the British Embassy in France. Princess JuneThe king's sister Charles III, was also supportive of the contestants. He had already competed in the Olympics, in 1976, in equestrian.
