Navy chief takes his wife and guests to Tuscany on an FAB plane

In early May, Admiral Almir Garnier, commander of the navy, traveled from the FAB (Forças Aéreas Brasileiras) to Tuscany, escorting his wife and guests to the military ceremony. The army and air force also sent officers to the ceremony, but only Garnier put aside the hassles of commercial flights and flew in an exclusive plane. This situation embarrassed the government’s military leadership, according to Vega.

However, the admiral and his guests still had to make 11 stops in the flight, as the FAB has little flight autonomy. After three days in Tuscany, the trip was extended and everyone stayed another four days in Turkey on an “official mission”. On return, the group was still spending a day in Lisbon.

However, this was not the only time the admiral used the FAB voyage and took guests, since this year the Navy disobeyed the decision of the CGU (Confederation Comptroller General), which decided that he should inform who accompanied Ganier on the voyage. . Still this month, the names of the six individuals who accompanied the captain on the aforementioned flight in December 2021 have been kept secret with Garnier’s own justification that the secrecy was intended to “preserve the crew’s image and honour”. Although the CGU decided at the time that the Navy would notify the names by April 7, the Admiral kept the decision to remain anonymous.

Tuscany is one of the most beautiful and most expensive regions in Italy. The capital, Florence, is home to some of the world’s most famous Renaissance architecture, such as Michelangelo’s statue of David, Botticelli’s work in the Galleria degli Uffizi and the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Duomo.
