bp pulse, The EV Network (EVN) and NEC Group have unveiled the UK’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging center at the NEC campus in the West Midlands, England.
The GigaHub™ was officially opened on September 7, 2023 by Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, who praised the event space management company’s initiative.
“This is the largest private investment in electric charging in the UK and a huge vote of confidence in Britain’s role as a leader in green industries,” he said.
“This site will be an important transportation hub for the future and is a significant step in our rollout of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country,” he added.
The Gigahub™ will enable the NEC to serve the seven million visitors it attracts annually, along with a wide range of other users who make up the area’s average annual traffic of 60 million.
Accessed by road via the NEC main campus, it is less than a mile from junction 6 of the M42 and just 2.4 miles from junction 7A of the M6.
Capable of charging up to 180 EV simultaneously, the Gigahub™ features state-of-the-art 16x 300KW ultra-fast DC chargers, two of which are accessible boxes.
These high-speed chargers are capable of charging up to 30 EVs simultaneously. There are a further 150 7KW charging points on site, including additional designated accessible bays.
The range of charging speeds offered by Gigahub™, from 300 kW for high-speed DC charging to 7 kW for long-stay AC charging, meets the diverse needs of a wide variety of electric vehicle drivers.
All Gigahub™ visitors will have access to the new Starbucks Coffee Drive, providing fast charging while they wait.
EV Network (EVN), as an investor in this multi-million dollar project, designed, developed and built the GigaHub™ charging electric vehicle.
Gigahub™ has worked closely with the bp Pulse EV network to ensure the best experience for its customers.
As one of the UK’s largest charging point operators, it will use its experience to operate the new centre.
NEC Group’s strategic engagement provides the essential foundation for the program – land. The benefits of your property’s location at the heart of the national road network make it an ideal location to host the UK’s largest electric vehicle charging centre.
“The opening of our Electric Vehicle Charging Center provides NEC campus customers, commuters and those working in local, regional or national organizations with a reliable and convenient way to recharge and support a low-carbon travel future,” said DL Paul Thandi, President of NEC. group.
