Ni Matogrosso, one of the greatest icons of Brazilian music, turns 80 this Sunday (1), and to celebrate, the star has an unreleased résumé, new music, and the only reason he doesn’t have a show is that he still can’t go back to the stage, Ney’s greatest passion, because Covid-19 epidemic.
He spoke with reporter Renata Capucci about the history and the projects he has in mind. In conversation, the now octogenarian tells how he feels good about his age: “I still feel like I’m late, you know?”
The translator has been in his career for nearly 50 years, winning the 1970s stage, with the group Secos & Molhados, still a reference in Brazilian popular music. Looking back at that time, Nye admits that he couldn’t imagine reaching that age still singing, producing and dancing. But it does share some secrets to maintaining fitness and longevity:
“To be thin, I eat a little. I eat a little, I don’t have any dietary restrictions, but I like to eat a little. And I’ve been doing gymnastics every day since I was 50. I like to lift weight, but I don’t like to get strong “

“I was almost in the middle of a recording without having a name. I always put in a title. And I had a Caetano song that I was going to sing. But then it was like, ‘Will Caetano make sense? Wow. It was… Caetano.”
