Believing that Mertz is in the bag, Gaspar, in his best Don Juan style, takes the clerk to a restaurant to receive the coveted document ensuring that Gilda will take possession of Marie’s inheritance. Mertz says he was able to locate the papers and that he kept them in a safe place, but she warns that Gaspar will have to pay for them.
“I’ll put everything in your hands as soon as you pay me for the service,” she says, asking exorbitantly for the sloppy little service.
Taken aback, Gaspar claims he has no money, but the girl is still adamant and claims that without money, there is no work.
Gilda promoter Sílvio is involved in the move
He tells Gilda what happened, as he takes the four gold bars stolen from Mary and gives them to Silvio, demanding that he give her the money. The prosecutor, bought by the villain and one of those responsible for convicting Mary, doesn’t like the redhead’s rudeness.
“You want me to get that money for you? That was just what I needed! Why do you think I have an obligation to save your skin?” He asks, who hears what he does not want:
“Because you owe me it! Do your best! And send the payment today to Gaspar, in Belo Horizonte. There’s a lot at stake, Sílvio, and you can’t fail. Don’t forget that if you fall, so will I.”
