Castillo, who has been in office since July 2021 for a period of five years, has already faced two attempts Isolation by Congress, and is responding to six tax investigations, regarding alleged corruption involving his family and political group.

“After accepting the resignation of the Prime Minister, whom I thank for his work on behalf of the country, I will renew the formation of the government,” Castillo said in a nationally televised address. Castillo added: “I ask Congress to respect the rule of law, the rights of the people, democracy and the balance of state powers.”
