lab BiotechnologyPfizer Inc., a partner in developing a COVID-19 vaccine, is responding to hundreds of claims from two law firms in Germany. People may experience side effects supposedly related to the coronavirus vaccine. Together, the lawsuits could reach one million euros.
This Monday, the 12th, the lab will face its first hearing in a Hamburg court, on the case of a 50-year-old woman. She requested 150,000 euros (about R$800,000) for symptoms such as an irregular heartbeat and “brain fog”. These problems could have been caused by the product. There are other reports of similar patients.
At the moment it is not clear who will pay the damages, in a possible victory for the people who filed the lawsuits. Purchase agreements between the European Union (EU) and vaccine companies, including BioNTech-Pfizer, contain full or partial waivers of legal costs and potential compensation from manufacturers, which could force EU governments to bear some of the costs.
BioNTech said it is confident that cases for victims of alleged side effects associated with the Pfizer vaccine will be filed.
