Quiroga goes to Switzerland to participate in the Health Assembly – News

Minister of Health Marcelo Quiroga, at the seventy-fifth session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), which will take place from 22 to 28 May, in Geneva, Switzerland. The World Health Organization (WHO) brings together ministers from member states to discuss topics such as disease control strategies and response to public health emergencies.


At this year’s session, whose theme will be “Health for Peace, Peace for Health,” the next Director-General of the World Health Organization will be appointed. Discussions are also scheduled for the new treaty on epidemiology and the strengthening of the International Health Regulations.


At this event there will be discussions on global strategies for food safety, oral health, research and innovation in the field of tuberculosis. Before the assembly, the World Health Organization will publish, on Friday (20), an annual compilation of health statistics for the 194 member states of the World Health Organization. The Results Report 2020-2021, also published before the World Health Assembly, summarizes the organization’s achievements and challenges in implementing the program budget. Both documents should support the planned discussions at the meeting.


The event is open to Member States, observers and invited representatives from the United Nations, other participating IGOs ​​and non-governmental actors. Assembly delegates, partner agencies, civil society representatives and WHO experts will also discuss public health priorities in a series of strategic round tables.
