Miami, July 24 (EFE). — A 73-year-old woman sustained a thigh injury when she pierced the long, sharp snout of a jumping sailfish while her friends were fishing for her on a boat off the coast of Florida, according to Sunday’s media reports. Katherine Perkins was hit while preparing to take a photo of the 100-pound fish caught by two of her friends and the animal jumped out of the water, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The two fishermen compressed the woman’s wound as they returned to shore in the southeastern Florida town of Stewart. The local press explained that the event took place on Tuesday, July 19, but did not mention the condition of the woman. Sailfish (Istiophorus) inhabiting the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, in addition to the long front end, has a sail-shaped dorsal fin and can reach three meters in length and weigh more than 100 kilograms.
