Santa Catarina has a higher employment level than 24 out of 38 OECD countries

Good news for Santa Catarina: the only state where the unemployment rate is lower than the average in the countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the unemployment rate in the state will be 4.5%, lower than 24 of the 38 countries that make up the organization.

The average unemployment rate in the OECD is 5.1% – lower than it was in February 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic began, when the rate was 5.3%.

OECD unemployment data was collected by the International Labor Organization.

While SC stands out favorably, Brazil is not just above the five countries that make up the OECD. The national unemployment rate was 11.1% in the first quarter, above Colombia (13.1%), Spain (13.5%), Turkey (14%), Greece (14.8%) and Costa Rica (17.1%).
