Selena Gomez deletes a post after she was accused of breaking the strike of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood; understand

Selena Gomez found herself in the middle of controversy after she posted a post on Instagram on Wednesday (30). The actress was accused of breaking the strike of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood by publishing a photo of her during the recording of the series “Only Murders In The Building”, in which the protagonist, Mabel, lives.

According to Variety, the star shared a behind-the-scenes video of the production and tagged the series’ profile. Selena wrote in the caption: “missing and wanting @onlymurdershulu”. In fifteen hours, the post had more than a million likes. However, the recording was soon deleted from the artist’s profile.

SAG-AFTRA rules prohibit members from publicizing their actions through press interviews or posting on social media during a strike. Although the actress doesn’t mention “Only Murders In The Building” in the video or encourage her followers to watch the series, the hashtag makes fans assume it’s a post about the production.

Although it is still debatable whether this was a breach of the rules or not, some observers accused Gomez of breaking the strike, and indicated that it would be a “silent” post as the professionals paused before the footage was deleted. The show is currently in its third season and none of the cast has given interviews to advertise work.

Hollywood strike

In early June, the actors’ union opened a vote among its members to approve the joint strike. Led by SAG president, actress Fran Drescher, the union, which represents more than 160,000 film and television actors, as well as other entertainment professionals from around the world, officially declared the strike on June 13. The decision follows an eleven-week strike by the WGA, the Hollywood Screenwriters Association, against AMPTP, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents major studios and streaming services.

Among the demands for studios, the WGA calls for higher minimum wages in all areas of media, more residuals, more revenue from live broadcasting, increased contributions to retirement plans and health and public protections for writers. On the other hand, SAG is asking the streaming giants to agree on a fairer division of profits and better working conditions. She also called for laws against the use of artificial intelligence, and guarantees that artificial intelligence and computer-generated faces and voices would not be used to replace it.

The action marks a historic moment in Hollywood, as it is the first strike by actors since 1980 and the first time in 63 years that a strike has taken place with writers.
