With the journey of the home office, in the pandemic, and the change in the behavior of the population, the four-day workweek has been discussed around the world.

A survey conducted by job advertising platform Emprego.com.br and published by Valor Econômico showed that 81% of Brazilian professionals prefer to work four days and take three days off. Of the 2,552 people interviewed, 13% still had doubts about the business model and 6% believed it didn’t work.

However, Brazilian companies are not open to this new initiative. Only 4.9% of companies are in favor of reducing working hours, according to the same survey. While 71.1% still do not have a specific position and 25% oppose it. To reach this result, 251 companies registered in the Empregos.com.br database were consulted.

It should be noted that the reduction in employee working hours does not provide for salary reductions. According to the Standardization of Labor Laws (CLT), depreciation can only be done in cases of collective agreements.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, experts highlighted the benefits of a work week with an extra day off to improve quality of life, and how flexible working can help retain talent and increase productivity.

Between 2015 and 2019, Iceland reduced the working day to 35 hours per week, with four working days. There, the result showed more productive, effective and motivated professionals.

The UK is testing the flight with an extra day off for 3,300 employees in 70 companies. The six-month test began in June and is aimed at understanding the productivity of professionals.
