First Hand: DualSense Wireless Controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition

Hi guys!

It is my pleasure to be back to reveal more news about Astro Bot.

If you’ve been following Astro news, you’ll already know that the Asobi team is hard at work on a brand new game that’s set to release on September 6th. The game features over 50 planets, new powers, tons of enemies, secrets, and PlayStation characters to collect. It also includes a DualSense wireless controller that transforms into a character to help Astro on his mission.

Today I'm excited to announce that you can immerse yourself in this amazing Astro adventure with the new DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition!

We know a lot of people have been waiting for this after seeing the trailer for the game. So, we immediately asked our beloved robots to start working on this beauty, and… here it is! No, no, it's a joke. It's been in development for some time, under the supervision of the amazing teams at SIE. And what a job it is!

The controller design features Astro's signature blue detailing embossed on the grips and buttons, sci-fi style lines and the famous playful eyes on the touchpad. It's truly a work of art, and we at the Asobi team couldn't be happier with the result.

With this new feature in your setup, it's time to live a huge adventure…

Pre-orders will begin soon at select retailers, so keep an eye on the PlayStation Blog for the latest news. The DualSense Wireless Controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities and will be released on September 6, alongside the Astro Bot game.

I'll take this opportunity to mention some of the cool things the new Astro Bot game does with the DualSense wireless controller.

First, as you'd expect from an Astro game, you can feel the surfaces that Astro runs and slides on, such as grass, sand, metal, slime, and water. It was already like that in Astro's playroom, but now you'll be able to feel more textures through the controller.

Additionally, we’ve doubled the number of adaptive triggers along with haptic feedback by linking them to Astro’s new powers. For example, when using Barkster, the Bulldog jetpack, you can feel the propeller vibrate on your finger in sync with the animation, giving a very dynamic and immersive feel. Each new power has received the same level of special care to ensure you experience multiple sensations while playing.

Finally, given the number of enemies and boss fights we've added to the new adventure, it was important to enhance the fights and effects by combining everything I mentioned above. Stretching, hitting, and punching hard surfaces are just some of the types of effects you can experience in Astro Bot.

And of course, we can’t end this text without talking about the Dual Speeder, one of the devices that Astro frequently uses to travel to different planets. The Dual Speeder uses all the features of motion control, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback. Check out an example of early concept art and the final result in the game.

That’s all for today! We’ll be back soon with more news about Astro Bot. Until then, let us know in the comments what you think of the DualSense – Astro Bot Limited Edition Wireless Controller.

Astro Bot will be released for PS5 on September 6th, and we're counting on you to help Astro on his first big adventure!
