Do you think you are a boring person? Or rather a boring person? Maybe not. Unless this description fits you: A religious person, who works in data analysis, loves to watch TV and lives in a small town. Who said this is a study from the University of Essex, UK.
Research on the science of boredom has already been peer-reviewed. I discovered the hobbies, jobs, and traits that are boring people. There were five trials with more than 500 people that were examined. So the researchers came up with that and made a list of what’s considered boring.

The article, published in the Bulletin of Personality and Social Psychology, found that in addition to analyzing data, people’s boring occupations are accounting, cleaning and banking. Among the hobbies listed were religion, watching television, watching birds, and smoking.
The research was led by Wijnand Van Tilburg from the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex, who wanted to take a look at the stigma of boredom and how it affects perceptions. Note in the study that people who are portrayed as boring are usually hated and shunned due to other people’s biases.
Those who spend a day with boring people expect some reward for it. As they fail to prove people wrong and break stereotypes, those who are considered boring end up being socially ostracized, more lonely and suffering a negative impact on life.
“The irony is that studying boredom is actually very interesting and has a lot of impacts on real life. This article shows how convincing perceptions of boredom are and what effect this has on people,” said Van Tilberg. People who are considered boring are more likely to have abuse, addiction, and mental health problems.
“It was interesting to me to see that the study showed that boring people are not seen as good. I used to think that accountants would be seen as boring but effective and the perfect person to do a good job on your tax return. The truth is that people are like bankers and accountants They are highly capable and powerful in society – perhaps we should try not to tease them and stereotype them as boring.”
On the other hand, some of the most interesting jobs were considered among the people examined during the study. They are: performing arts, science, journalism, healthcare and teaching.
