Sunak has pledged to halve UK inflation by 2023

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, on Wednesday (January 4, 2023) promised to cut inflation in the country by half in 2023. According to him, the measure seeks to “Reduce the cost of living and give people financial security”. The announcement was made during his first speech of the year. On this occasion, Sunak promised that the country’s economic growth will be a priority for his government this year. He stated that he would encourage a “creative economy”while creating opportunities for better paying jobs, as well as a commitment to reducing the national debt.

Last year, England faced a historic economic crisis. In December 2022, the Bank of England raised the interest rate to 3.5%, the highest rate in 14 years. In November, the Monetary Authority warned that the country would enter a range “Long Stagnation”as well as projecting a 0.3% drop in GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the last quarter of the year.

Promises for 2023

In addition to the three economic proposals, Sunak has identified two other priorities for this year. One of them is a proposal to reduce waiting lists in the NHS (National Health Service, its abbreviation in English) – the UK’s public health system – until March this year.

He also claimed he wanted “Stop the boats”with a promise to pass laws in the British Parliament to end illegal immigration in England. “Ensuring that if you come to this country illegally, you will be stopped and deported quickly.”He said.
