The company that operates the equipment said the passengers on the missing submarine Titan died while diving to visit the Titanic’s remains.
The information was published in a statement by OceanGate and later confirmed by the US Coast Guard.
The US Coast Guard, which was involved in the search for the submersible Titan, said it had found five pieces of debris “which they told us were from Titan.”
A Coast Guard spokesperson reported how the parts were found.
“First, we saw what looked like the outside of the airlock. We found the front and back of the airlock. Next, we found a second area of debris near the area where another piece of the airlock structure was. This leads us to believe that it had been Destroy it already.”
With this in mind, the agency said it would map the area in an effort to understand what happened.
After being questioned, the speakers said the wreckage had not been found so close to the Titanic that there is a suspicion that it was from the ship that sank in 1912. The US Coast Guard said the size and shape of the wreck are consistent. With a catastrophic implosion.
Rescue team representatives also said it was “too early to say whether the implosion occurred shortly after landing” and that they would continue to investigate this area of the wreckage to determine possible causes.
The Titanic had five people aboard and is part of the OceanGate Company, which offers submarine tours to visit the wreck of the Titanic.
