From July 20 to 29, several artists and theater companies will occupy the city of São José do Rio Preto (SP), in the northwest of São Paulo, to celebrate the 2023 edition of FIT Rio Preto – International Theater Festival. This event, which spans 54 years, is one of the oldest performing arts festivals in the country, and provides a space for discussion and reflection in this artistic language, with a program that combines performances and training activities aimed at democratizing production, access and cultural fruits.
Co-hosted by the Municipality of São José do Rio Preto, through the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, and the Sesc São Paulo, the FIT Foundation is, according to Tiago Freire, Director of Sesc Rio Preto and General Coordinator of the Festival, a milestone in the history of the festival. city. “It is very important for a municipality in the interior of São Paulo to position itself as a meeting point, a kind of crossroads where creators of diverse origins and different creative preferences meet equally diverse audiences.” In addition, Freire continues, “The way the city mobilizes, in its public facilities, squares, streets and Sesc facilities, to welcome artists and promote people’s access to an always innovative and dynamic programme, is a very rich way.” , Complete. .

The curators, consisting of Fernanda Julia Onisaje (BA), Fernando Yamamoto (RN) and Tommy Della Pietra (SP), proposed a program schedule of 30 shows, represented by Argentina, Brazil, Portugal and the United Kingdom. At the opening, on 7/20, at 8 p.m., the performance De Tempo Somos, directed by Grupo Galpão (MG), will be presented at the Nelson Castro Amphitheater, in the Municipal Reservoir of the city.
