The English Premier League, the organizing company of the English Championship, today, Wednesday, released the match schedule for the 2021-2022 season. Defending champions Manchester City will start defending the title soon with a huge challenge ahead. They will face the derby match against Tottenham Hotspur, away, in London, in the opening round scheduled for 14 and 15 August.
Their biggest rival, Manchester United, who finished second last season, will host Leeds United on their debut. The match will be held at Old Trafford in Manchester. Chelsea, the current Champions League winner, will play at home, at Stamford Bridge, in London, against Crystal Palace.
And Liverpool, third-placed in the last edition of the English Premier League, will return for the first time away from home to Norwich, to return to the English elite after being champions of the second division. Arsenal will visit Brentford in the opening round.
With vaccination against the emerging coronavirus at an advanced stage in the United Kingdom and with mitigation measures, the Premier League believes that the next football season in the country will be empty to receive the maximum capacity.
“We are working with the ambition to fill the stadiums, including the attendance of visiting club fans, since the beginning of the season,” the authority said in an official statement. The 2021-2022 season, with its 38 rounds, is scheduled to end on May 22, 2022.
