The electricity bill is the most expensive in Minas Gerais as of Sunday (28/05). a 14.91% increase for resident customers It was confirmed by Cemig last Tuesday (23/05) and identified by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Tariff adjustment is discussed every five years.
The announced increase is larger than that initially predicted by Aneel, by around 12%. The issue was discussed in public consultations and hearings throughout the year, but the agency did not lower the amendment as civil society organizations had requested. The tariff review process takes into account the investments Cemig is making in its franchise area and calculates operating costs.
How is the electricity bill determined?
The electricity tariff is calculated on the basis of three factors: the purchase of the energy itself, its transmission and distribution costs, and sector fees, in addition to taxes such as ICMS and PIS/Cofins.
Of the amount charged in the tariff, Cemig keeps 26%. The other 74% is divided into sector charges (19.3%), federal and state taxes (16.7%), purchased energy (28.8%), transmission charges (8.7%), and lost revenue (0.4%). Taxes, such as general lighting charges, ICMS, PIS and Cofins are passed entirely on to the governments.
