Sputnik – The Houthis in Yemen announced that they would continue their attacks on commercial ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea, and stressed that the place was no longer a “resort” in which the United States could sail freely.
Muhammad Ali Al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council, said during a public event held on Friday (16) in Sanaa, two days after his announcement, that “The Red Sea is no longer a resort where Americans can stroll and have a good time.” The United States launched its latest strikes against Houthi targets.
The Houthi leader also called on Arab countries to maintain pressure on the “enemies” until the Israeli attack on Gaza stops, adding that the Yemenis “will stand steadfastly with Gaza until victory.”
The Yemeni group's statements come on the same day that Washington's new sanctions took effect against the Houthis, whom the North American country calls “specially designated global terrorists.”

First announced in mid-January, these sanctions prevent Americans from providing any financial or material assistance to the Yemeni group and freeze any assets the Houthis may have in the United States.
The Houthis' actions slowed the flow of Israeli-owned ships heading through the Red Sea, resulting in a decline in commercial activity in the Israeli port of Eilat by 85%.
In response to this campaign, on January 12, the United States and the United Kingdom began an offensive of missile strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, aiming to limit the militia’s ability to hijack commercial ships sailing in the Red Sea.
But the Houthis responded to the joint military campaign between the Americans and the British by attacking the warships of these countries.
In addition, the Yemeni group defied the attacks, declaring that the American “losers” and their allies “will regret their aggressive actions against Yemen,” and will be prevented from passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
