The James Webb Space Telescope is the largest telescope ever sent into space.

a James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)Give NASAfound the oldest known galaxy in Universe. The group of stars called GLASS-z1 dates back to 300 million years after the Big Bang. This surpasses the oldest previous galaxy, GN-Z11, discovered by Hubble Space Telescope With an “age” of 100 million years.

Researchers at Harvard University and the Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Massachusetts have also discovered a second galaxy called GLASS-z11, which is about the same age, report Watchman.

Both galaxies have a mass equivalent to a billion suns, which may indicate an earlier origination date of 500 million years. It is also relatively small compared to the Milky Way, which is 100,000 light-years across. GLASS z-11, for example, is 2,300 light-years away.

“If these galaxies are as far away as we think, then the age of the universe is only a few hundred million years at this observed point,” says Rohan Naidoo, a graduate student at the university.

All chips on James Webb

It is possible that James Webb will be able to look even further back and discover galaxies as young as 200 million years old. This will be an important step in JWST’s cosmic mapping mission.

The scientific community celebrates James Webb’s discoveries. Last week, NASA released a file The first images recorded by the telescopewhich includes the Karina nebulae, a group of galaxies known as the “Stefan Five”, and a spectrum of light from the exoplanet WASP-96b.
