The municipality of Matinhos, on the coast of Paraná, declares a state of emergency after the storm – O Presente

The mayor of Matinos, on the coast of Paraná, Jose Carlos Espírito Santo, declared a municipal state of emergency on Wednesday afternoon (10). The decision came after a storm of up to 100 km/h left a streak of destruction across the Paraná coast, inundating homes, fallen trees and landslides.

The city council also suspended public service in all departments, except for UPA’s 24-hour emergency emergency service and Hospital de Navigants.

All essential health units suspended their activities on Wednesday (10) also in Guaratuba due to wind and rain. The emergency room and the local hospital in Guaratuba continue to serve them 24 hours a day.

In Guaratuba, on the Paraná coast, the municipal education minister issued a statement via social media at City Hall canceling classes this afternoon. The municipality is already forecasting an accumulation of more than 100 mm of rain over the coming period. Classes in Paranagua, Moretes and Antonina have been cancelled.

Companhia de Energia Elétrica do Paraná (Copel) reported that about 22,000 consumer units are without electricity on the Paraná coast due to torrential rains that hit the area early in the afternoon of Wednesday the 10th. Three municipalities: Guaratuba (with 10.7 thousand consumers without electricity), Pontal do Paraná (8.7 thousand) and Matinhos (1.3 thousand).
