The interaction between artificial intelligence and humanity inspires another edition of the International Electronic Language Festival – FILE, which occupies the exhibition space of the Fiesp Cultural Center, from July 5 to August 27. The main gallery is visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 8 pm, with free admission.
The theme of the current edition of the festival is “interactive singularities”a reference to a hypothesis in science fiction that mutual interaction between artificial intelligences (AIs) and humans would lead to the development of a simulated consciousness, i.e. the “artificial self”, which can dialogue with the “natural self” and exchange information and experiences in various ways.
This idea according Paula Bericenotto that it Ricardo Paretothe curators and founders of FILE, goes against the trend of thinking that artificial intelligence will soon become autonomous and self-aware.
A common “hybrid consciousness” would link human consciousness to the vast knowledge that has been produced in human history through artificial consciousness and this could lead to an evolutionary shift. Not as a single artificial individual that would dominate humanity, but as “hybrid singularities” that would interact with each other, solving the world’s complex problems,” the coordinators explain about the edition proposal.
The FILE São Paulo 2023 program includes the main exhibition, an installation at the entrance to the Fiesp Cultural Center, projections of works on the facade of the building, partnerships with other institutions, workshops and an installation in the metro.
Held in partnership with SESI-SP since 2004, the festival is an event in which the public can interact and discover the most innovative elements of the union between art, science and technology.

Using motion sensors, visitors can track the paths of sound waves, and interfere with the reproduction of the original sounds.
Another highlight is “big waste” (2022)from North America Ozge Samangi, A virtual reality installation that raises awareness of space exploration, based on data revealing links between marine pollution and recent space pollution. In action, it is possible to experience the high velocities of satellite debris and its impact on the atmosphere and seas through audio and visual resources.
Already installation “The Phase” (2022)in Saif Lee, from Hong Kong, was also generated from Data Generation. The work is inspired by a set of rules developed from the Wolfram Physics project mixed with the realm of Chinese Taoism, transforming scientific hypotheses into a generative visual system. In this experience, visitors can manipulate 4K animations from the motion.
Also noteworthy work Unbonded on the Bonded domainCommissioned by FACT, London, by Brazilian artist Gabriel Massan, who seeks to harmonize the emotional experience of his childhood in Rio de Janeiro, adolescence in São Paulo and maturity in Europe as raw material for his work, following the advice of writer and academic Saidia Hartmann in the concept of “critical industrialization” to explore a system default environment.
