Paraná Institute of Technology (Tecpar) is accredited to conduct tests for rabies sera that are accepted in Europe, America and Asia, a total of 36 countries. The test is a legal requirement for Brazilian travelers who want to take their pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) with them on international flights.
In line with the most stringent international standards, the report by Tecpar meets the requirements of 27 member states of the European Union, four countries of the United Kingdom, as well as the United States, Switzerland, Norway, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. This document establishes that the animal that received the rabies vaccine in Brazil was indeed vaccinated and produced antibodies to the rabies virus.
“Tecpar is the only laboratory in the south of the country that is accredited by the United States and the European Union to perform this type of testing and is ready to serve clinics and veterinarians across the country. Once again, Parana reinforces its leadership role when it comes to health innovation,” he highlights On Tecpar CEO, Jorge Calado.
More structure – Tecpar began offering anti-rabies serology testing in June 2021, expanding its range of animal health services. The service brought benefits to veterinarians from Paraná, who previously had to look for laboratories in other states. The local offer of rabies serology testing has reduced logistical costs by sending samples and speeding up the receipt of reports, making life easier for educators, clinics and veterinarians.
In order to comply with international regulations, the institute has modernized the laboratory complex on its campus in the Juvevê district, in Curitiba. Currently, the tests are carried out by the Laboratory Testing Laboratory of the Quality Control Department of Tecpar, the same place where the quality control of the rabies vaccine produced by the institute.
International Accreditation – Tecpar’s first accreditation was with the European Union, in 2021. To obtain accreditation, it was necessary to pass a proficiency test organized by the French agency Anses-Nancy, a reference laboratory of the European Union. Tecpar was also the first laboratory in the Southern District accredited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to perform serum testing on companion animals for the USA.
How to Apply – Rabies serology testing is a legal requirement of the World Health Organization (WHO) for travelers who wish to take their pets to countries that require an International Veterinary Certificate (CVI).
The sample for the test must be collected by a veterinary clinic or laboratory, so the teacher must contact a veterinarian, who is responsible for advising on the necessary procedures and ordering examination to a licensed laboratory, as well as for later supplying the animal. Health certificate.
To avoid setbacks, travelers should inform themselves in advance of the legal requirements for boarding and transporting animals, depending on the country of destination. This is because each state stipulates different documents, deadlines and rules, such as the minimum age of the animal, the form of entry, the need for a microchip and the date of the vaccination certificate, among other requirements.
