The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics torch was lit on Monday (28th) at Stoke Mandeville in the United Kingdom. Officials from Buckinghamshire, representatives of the British Paralympic Committee, the President of the International Paralympic Committee and the Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom attended the event and gave speeches.
China’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Zheng Zigang, said the Paralympic torch is a sublime symbol of the spirit of the Paralympics. According to the diplomat, with great anticipation, the torch lit in Stoke Mandeville will join eight other flames lit in Chinese territory, which together will form the torch of the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games. Zheng Zigang noted that the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games will open in three days . According to the ambassador, the Chinese government prioritizes the health and safety of all participants in the event and will create a good environment for athletes from all countries, in order to bring a simple, safe and wonderful Paralympic Games to the world.
Stoke Mandeville is located in Aylesbury, the county capital of Buckinghamshire and the birthplace of the Paralympic movement.
The Beijing Paralympic torch relay will be held from March 2-4 in the three competition areas located in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.
