The UK Prime Minister has called for deeper cooperation in Ukraine and European affairs

He broke away from the previous Conservative government, which threatened to withdraw from international human rights treaties, and offered a new approach to other European leaders.

“Under my leadership, the United Kingdom will be a friend and a partner, ready to work with you, not as part of the EU, but as much of Europe,” Starmer said in his comments, referring to the country's exit from the EU. After the 2016 polls.

“It is our commitment to protect them (shared values) and what we are sure we can achieve together,” he told other leaders in the CPE, which is separate from the EU and formed after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

His call for closer cooperation comes against the backdrop of the likely election of Donald Trump in the US, who, along with his running mate JT Vance, has cut off US support for Ukraine and left Europe to cover the situation.

Two weeks later, fresh from his first international trip as prime minister to Washington after winning a landslide in an election, Starmer returned to the international arena, calling on Europe to support Ukraine against Russia.

“So our first task here today is to reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine,” Starmer told the crowd.
