Initially, the United Kingdom was interested in hosting the 2030 World Cup, but was left out of the idea by Aleksander Ceferin, president of UEFA, who spearheaded Euro 2028. The continent is battling to host the aforementioned World Cup with Portugal and Spain, which have submitted an application.

If the UK and Ireland are confirmed to host Euro 2028, the tournament will host matches in five countries, something seen in the last edition of the competition, which had 11 places in 11 different countries. The countries of the United Kingdom are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Euro 2024 edition will be held in Germany between June 14 and July 14. In all, ten German cities will host matches: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
