Trump Allies Step Up Attacks on Kamala Harris

Republicans have regularly criticized Kamala, 59, during Biden's tenure, but this week's attacks marked a sharp and apparently coordinated escalation that appears linked to growing suggestions that she could replace Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee.

The National Republican Congressional Committee, which oversees Republican races in the House of Representatives, described her as Biden's “prime facilitator.”

However, MAGA, the super PAC that supports Trump, issued a statement calling her an “invasion czar.” In March 2021, Biden said Kamala would lead efforts with Mexico and Central American countries to address illegal immigration.

Since then, Republicans have seized on this to accuse her of failing to stop the flow of millions of migrants illegally crossing the border into the United States, even though she was never directly responsible for securing the southern border.

“Kamala Harris is incompetent. She has proven to be the weakest and worst vice president in history and has supported Joe Biden 100% on every disastrous policy he has implemented over the past four years,” said Carolyn Levitt, a Trump campaign spokeswoman.

The Biden campaign has fended off mounting Republican criticism without addressing the question of whether the vice president is waiting in the wings.
