Trump supporters mock Rep. Kamala Harris' mentally ill son

During a speech by Kamala Harris’s vice president, Tim Walz, at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday (August 22), his son, Gus Walz, was moved by his father’s words and videos of the boy went viral on social media. But while the reaction left viewers emotional, it also sparked attacks on Trumpism.

Amidst intense tears, Gus clapped and pointed to Tim Walz, repeating the phrase “That's my father!” in a gesture of admiration.

In response, Trump supporters on X mocked the 17-year-old's stance, calling it “weird” and “stupid.”

“Talk about weird…” conservative journalist and political commentator Ann Coulter wrote online, and given the fallout from his comment, he deleted the tweet shortly after.

Another wrote that “Tim Walz’s whiny, stupid son is not the braggart the left thinks he is,” comparing him to Donald Trump’s son. “Does Barron Trump cry? No. Does he love his father? Of course. These are the kinds of values I want to lead our country with.”

Gus Walz is neurotypical, suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, and nonverbal learning disorder, conditions that can inhibit a person's behavior and make it difficult to control emotions in social situations.
