Tyson Fury and Alexander Usyk have agreed to fight each other in an undisputed fight for the heavyweight championship early next year, according to promoter Bob Arum.
Unbeaten Fury recalled Usyk after his victory over Derek Chisora this month, but the Ukrainian has already been ordered to face Daniel Dubois in his WBA title defense.
But Arum, who is Fury’s co-promoter, is confident the fight can be put together in the first four months of next year, without either champion having to fight in the meantime.
He said sky sportThe two fighters agreed to fight each other afterward. With Fury and Usyk, we’re dealing with two adults, not much [rubbish] Back and forth. Usyk is a good friend of mine, he’s very smart and Tyson is superman, athletic and as an intellectual.
“So they want to fight. They both want to fight and so there will be very little, if any, [messing] About. Then we will be able to make it happen. I am very, very confident. As I said, the combatants agreed to fight each other without any temporary fights.”
Arum added that the fight could still be staged in the UK, as the Americans had suggested Wembley Stadium would be a “cool” venue. However, the fight must take place in Saudi Arabia, if it happens.
“The question now is what is the date and what is the place,” Arum added. But this fight will definitely happen and it will happen in the first four months of next year.
“We’re balancing some important offers from the Middle East and there’s also the potential to play the Battle of the UK at Wembley with a huge crowd of 95,000.
“Fighters have a relatively short life and money is important. Therefore, if the money proposed to us is real, then this must be taken into account.”
