The United Kingdom and Belgium have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of decarbonization and the future electricity connection between the two countries.

The memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed between the UK’s Minister of Energy Greg Hands and the Belgian Minister of Energy Dinne van der Stratin on 23 February:

  • A new multi-purpose electrical connection
  • Utilization of marine wind energy
  • Low carbon hydrogen use
  • Capture, use and storage of carbon

UK Energy Minister Greg Hands said: “We already have a long-term energy relationship (with Belgium) and this agreement will strengthen collective energy security and reduce our exposure to global energy prices.”

“Belgium and the United Kingdom have signed a new cooperation agreement to establish a second interconnection. The existing power connector, Nemo-Link, is one of the best performing connections in the world. The new connection to the power island is a hybrid connection. New wind farms can also be connected to the grid, ”said Belgian Energy Minister Dinne van der Stratten.

“Leadership is very lucrative, as evidenced by Belgium’s marine energy production, which broke all records this month and has a downward effect on prices.
