UK investigates false Google and Amazon reviews – International

The British Competition Commission on Friday launched a formal investigation into digital rival companies Google and Amazon to determine whether they have violated consumer protection laws by failing to act against misconceptions.

The Competition and Markets Commission (CMA) has been conducting an informal investigation for more than a year, indicating that these two US groups are highly permissible in the fraudulent practice.

“These technology sites need to take responsibility and we are ready to act when we believe they are not enough,” he warned.

The regulator is investigating Google for fears that planned changes to its Chrome browser will strengthen its grip on online advertising.

“We have dedicated significant resources to prevent misleading or paid reviews from appearing in our online store to help build consumer confidence,” Amazon said in a statement.

He said he was cooperating with the online sales company CMA in its investigation and that there were no allegations that its site violated the law.

For its part, Google, contacted by AFP, did not respond.

Facebook, Amazon and Google as the Internet companies face many investigations for abusing dominant position, particularly in the United States and Europe.
