The debate over the use of electric or hybrid ethanol cars continues in full swing in Brazil, with the topic starting to grow in other parts of the world about an even more advanced one: flying cars. The United Kingdom has already opened its first “airport” for this type of vehicle.
Air One, also known as the “Airport” (eVTOL) for electric vertical departure and landing vehicles, was established in Coventry with the support of the British Government. The idea is that the site is used at least once a month.
The world’s first functional Vertiboard is open to the public from April 28 until May 15. This is the first step in more than 200 “Verteports” projects that Urban-Airport plans to open worldwide over the next five years.
“Cars have roads. There are tracks for trains. There are airports for flights. Now, eVTOLs have an urban-air port. Our technology will help decorbonize Coventry and other cities across the country, as well as cities around the world, allowing us to safely adopt cleaner motion solutions, ”said Ricky Chandu, Founder and CEO of Urban-Airport.
Air taxis, drones and more
Air One’s facilities include an Air Taxi passenger lounge, disaster emergency management and security area, command and control area and logistics area. The FATO (Final Approach and Departure Area) platform lift will allow certified cargo drones to move up and down for demonstration purposes.
Verteport is located in an area of approximately 400,000 people. It is close to Coventry’s main train station and interstate transport links. After Coventry, it will move to other locations in the UK to show full functionality in different contexts and settings.
Air One’s concept includes a wide range of services: passenger air taxis, autonomous delivery drones, disaster emergency management and security and logistics operations.
“The launch of Air-One is an important moment – the new era of transportation, the era of zero emissions and the ease of travel between cities to make people healthier, happier and more connected than ever before,” he concluded.
