UK PM, Lula on phone: ‘Green economy’

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spoke on the phone about forest conservation and cooperation between the Brazilian and British governments to protect the planet’s natural resources.

“We discussed working on our shared priorities of environment and democratic values,” Sunak wrote on social media.

Further, The British government released a note detailing what the two spoke🇧🇷 “Both leaders highlighted the importance of taking action to reverse forest loss, and the President-elect updated the Prime Minister on his plans to transition to a more diverse and green economy,” a British government statement said.

Chunak congratulated Lula for winning the election. Additionally, according to a note, the two spoke about the “importance of maintaining democratic values”.

Lula and the UK Prime Minister wished both countries success in the World Cup. The conversation took place minutes before Brazil took the field against Croatia, who were eliminated on penalties this Friday (9), in the quarter-finals.

At the end of the match, Rishi Sunak sympathized with Brazil’s exit. “Our countries have many things in common, including a love of football, so we offer our condolences for tonight’s decision.”
