UThe arctic walrus – affectionately known as ‘Thor’ – A New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Scarborough, England, has led to its cancellationAfraid of being able to Causing animal suffering.
The walrus was spotted off the Hampshire coast earlier this month and arrived in Scarborough harbor between Christmas and New Year, British believe.
“Walrus Welfare Must Take Priority”Disappointed by the outcome of the event, Steve Siddons, head of Scarborough’s ‘council’ (the British equivalent of Portugal), promised to act following the signs of British Divers Marine Life Rescue.
“We have moved forward with the decision to cancel the fireworks, but we understand that some people will be disappointed that they will not take place. Arctic walruses rarely come ashore on the Yorkshire coast.“, Siddons continued, as quoted by The Telegraph newspaper.
It is believed the young walrus – which has also been ‘caught’ in the Netherlands and France – may have arrived in the UK from as far away as Canada and “wandered” before returning to the Arctic.
