Sputnik – Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadim Prystaiko, criticized his President Volodymyr Zelensky’s response to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, saying the Ukrainian leader’s sarcasm was unhealthy.
Earlier, Wallace said Ukraine should be very grateful for Western aid. For his part, Zelensky, commenting on the report, said he could thank Wallace every morning.
“I don’t think sarcasm is healthy,” Pristiko told Sky News. According to the ambassador, one should not show the “Russians” that there is tension between the countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Ukraine.
“If something happens, they need to know we’re working together, Ben [Wallace] He can call me and say whatever he wants,” the Ukrainian ambassador said. According to him, Ukraine needs the support of allies, but does not expect them to fight “for itself”, Kiev only asks for equipment.
There was a minor rift between Zelensky and US and British officials after the Ukrainian president criticized the Atlantic alliance on Monday, accusing the US-led group of not showing proper respect for Ukraine after failing to provide a timetable for Kiev membership.
According to The Washington Post, the US leadership was “outraged” by Zelensky’s comments.
Wallace added that its Western backers “are not Amazons” and said it would be nice if Kiev showed some gratitude. He also noted complaints from some U.S. officials that Ukraine sometimes treats the U.S. like an online retailer.
