Next Thursday (10th), the UK government will sign a cooperation agreement with the Salvadoran education sector. The initiative seeks to implement activities for continuous professional development of teachers, teacher trainers and other professionals in the education sector. Also, at 10 AM, the British launched the Prosperity Skills Program.
According to the British, the program promotes access to opportunities for young people and disadvantaged groups to develop skills for education and the world of work. These are efforts to democratize English learning that have already benefited more than 2.5 million students and more than 20,000 teachers in all regions of Brazil through a variety of teaching materials and an English language training platform for educators.
In Salvador, 100,000 elementary school students and more than 9,000 teachers from the municipal public school system are expected to benefit from the program.
“Promoting education development is a priority for the UK. We know that learning English is essential for young people to have a successful life. That’s why we want to help those with the least resources to have that opportunity. We’re up for the task. Partnerships like this symbolize one of the core tasks of diplomacy: bringing countries together to promote social justice and equal opportunities.” ,” said Melanie Hopkins, Acting Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The agreement, led by the British Council, marks the start of a joint venture with Salvador City Hall to develop the skills of English language teachers, improve their fluency and develop specific skills for teaching the language. Educators from other areas can also benefit from this initiative as it includes continuing education for science teachers and their technologies.
The British Council is the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities. Present in more than 100 countries, the Council promotes activities in the fields of arts and culture, education and English.
“We are honored to work with Salvador City Hall and collaborate with their transformative vision for education. Supporting the professional development of English teachers is a priority for us in the US and we look forward to working with other cities, states and the federal government on similar initiatives,” celebrates British Council America Regional Director Helen Sylvester. .
The UK Ambassador’s agenda includes other events. On Wednesday (9), she will attend a reception for the Women of the Future program led by the British government’s UK-Brazil Tech Hub programme, which supports the development of female entrepreneurs through initiatives such as business training sessions and mentoring. The event will celebrate the success of the program in Bahia and strengthen the relationship between the young women who benefited and the supporters of the initiative.
