A video that went viral on social media this week showed Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pue speaking casually on a sidewalk in Punta del Este. In the recording, the president is wearing sports clothes, has a relaxed posture, and appears to be not accompanied by security guards.

On record, two other men approached Lacalle Pou and asked to take selfies with him, and he complied with their requests.
After learning that the moment had gone viral, Lacalle Pou explained that he had just met the man he was talking to in the video, and that he did not realize that the meeting place was not the most suitable for a president.
“I went to meet this man whom I did not know, and we agreed to meet there. Of course, after I sat down, I realized that this was not the right place,” he said, laughing.
He also explained that the person he was exchanging ideas with in the video owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and they were discussing motorcycles. The president's comment on the incident was shared on the social platforms of Uruguay's Fox Punta del Este radio.
Lacalle Pou has already gone viral for another laid-back moment on the street. In early January, he was photographed riding his motorcycle in the port of Punta del Este, apparently unaccompanied. In the video, a passerby approaches him and asks him to take a selfie. The president then takes off his helmet and takes a photo.
While some appreciated the scene, there was criticism, as Lacalle Pou was not wearing the proper helmet, nor the reflective vest required to ride a motorcycle in the country. “He should be fined,” Jorge Alfaro, executive secretary of the National Road Safety Unit (Unasev), said in an interview with local channel Telemundo, saying that traffic rules must be respected by everyone.
